Mancunians Seek To Appoint New Board Members

Mancunians are seeking to appoint two new directors to join their executive board. After a continued period with the same directors, two of the current board have decided not to continue with their roles after this years AGM, which is on Saturday October 8th at 11.30 AM. myselfie_mike_burr
Mancunians is a rapidly growing rugby league and sports club that has activity all over Manchester. We run rugby league and rugby union teams at adult level and work with many schools across the city to deliver rugby, handball and dodgeball and we would welcome new additions to the board of directors.
What is expected of me?
You’ll need to be able to provide a strategic overview of how Mancunians is developing and be willing to be a registered director of Mancunians R.L. Being a company director comes with legal responsibilities but, they are not too onerous. There is a guide to being a company director HERE.
What will I do?
You will be required to attend four board meetings per year, which are every quarter. We have a growing number of volunteers who ‘run’ the club on a day-to-day basis under the guidance of one of our directors and your role will be to check and challenge decisions and proposals made to the board. We have a well-developed strategy which we are rolling out and your role would be to have input into fine tuning the strategy and assisting Mancunians to achieve its 20:20 vision of having 1,000 participants by the year 2020.
Why a board and not a committee?
Mancunians R.L. Ltd is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority and is required by law to have a board of directors. A board operates on a strategic level and oversees the strategy of the club and ensures that the strategy is delivered, and approves proposals made to it by whereas a committee can often have a less of a strategic role and often ‘runs’ the club on a day-to-day basis.
The club is registered as a Sports Club Community Mutual, which means that the club is owned by it’s members unlike other clubs and businesses which can be owned by a small number of shareholders or not owned by any of its members at all. We are run in the same way as other successful sports clubs including Rochdale Hornets, Bramley Buffaloes, FC United of Manchester and FC Barcelona.
We actively promote supporter ownership and work closely with Supporters Direct to assist other sports clubs to take control of their destiny.
What sort of person are you looking for?
Someone who is enthusiastic and willing to help! Those are the only two pre-requisites that we ask for. We are currently looking for two new directors to make up the board as two of our longer serving members are standing down. You would join the board a a very exciting time as we have recently started to roll-out our strategy to assist the club to achieve it’s 2020 vision. Both of the directors who are stepping down have provided Mancunians with a fantastic level of support at a strategic level over recent years and ideally, the new board members would continue with this philosophy.
What do I need to do if I am interested?
Come to the AGM! You will need to put yourself forward for election at the meeting and be willing to discuss with other attendees why you would like to join the board. If you can not come to the AGM it is possible for the board to ‘co-opt’ people on to the board at a later date.
